Edgewood
705 Edgewood St NE · Washington, DC 20017
Let's bring a gathering place back to 705 Edgewood.
A large, welcoming space with a terrace on the Metropolitan Branch Trail. The neighborhood public house and third space where the community relaxed and connected. A space where everyone in the community felt at ease and at home. That’s what City State meant for the neighborhood.
What happened
City-State Public House closed after July 25, 2026, after the landlord moved to empty the building at 705 Edgewood St NE. The space has sat vacant since with no immediate plans.
Before a decision gets made about what comes next, we think it's worth having real support for—and evidence in hand that a gathering place there is worth the neighborhood's support.
What we're doing
We're Activate Edgewood, a small group of neighbors. Not a business. Not a campaign. We're not trying to stop redevelopment. We think whatever comes next at 705 Edgewood should include a place like City-State was, and we're building the case for it: who used it, how, and how much it mattered, so a future owner, broker, or operator has something real to act on.
